Feature request for Ifixit Answers?

Hi @krisrodriguez

Any chance that a number of views count figure could be added to questions that have been responded to in Answers?

The ability to get the count figure information seems to be there given the most viewed answers information provided in the monthly email being sent from ifixit to me

It's getting a bit dispiriting posting answers or comments in questions, (sometimes within 10 minutes of them being posted), without any response at all from the OP and sometimes not from anybody else either.

I'm not talking about rep points. Just some sort of acknowledgement that a contribution to the question be it either an answer or a comment for clarification has been seen by somebody and not that those who do contribute begin to feel that their time has been to no avail as there has been no kind of feedback at all, positive or negative

At least with a view count, it's known that somebody else has seen it and hopefully it may have helped them.

I realize that there's a "Is this a good question?" upvote option but to me that's not the same and generally it doesn't seem to get much use.

Cheers

@jayeff thanks for this thoughtful suggestion—it’s a really good idea.

I’ve passed it along to our dev team to see if it’s something we can implement. It makes total sense that even a small signal like a view count could help contributors feel more seen, especially when there’s no reply or upvote.

I’ll keep an eye on it and circle back with any updates if we’re able to make it happen. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this.

@jayeff, your suggestion sparked a good conversation.

Just to make sure we’re on the same page: are you envisioning the view count showing up on the main question page itself (perhaps next to an answer), or on the “All Answers” index page where the list of questions appears?

Some of us read your post as asking for something more visible in the index view, while others thought you meant on the question detail page.

We do currently show some basic stats at the bottom of question pages, but I'm assuming that’s not what you meant.

@krisrodriguez

On the main question detail page would be best I think.

That way it means that they went to the trouble of selecting the question from the all answers index page to view any (or all) answers on the question page

On the all answers index would only indicate if it was an often viewed question which I suppose may mean that the question and answers have been viewed a lot.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Either way would probably work.

I'll admit that I've never noticed the statistics at the bottom of the question page (I never scroll down that far) so maybe all you have to do is move them up to the top somewhere more noticeable

Thanks once again

Cheers
